hi folks, happy Tuesday!

Today is the release of our new single, Radio Free Bolinas. Check out this incredible video for the song by Theo Dorian. I’m truly honored to star as a low-poly render:

Radio Free Bolinas is a song I wrote just over a year ago before we set off for our first international tour, a whirlwind adventure through Sweden and Norway in the heavy snows of February. I’d never been anywhere as remotely cold as the arctic circle, and I’d been spending all my free time obsessing about long underwear and merino socks.

I’d been mainly reading Richard Brautigan’s In Watermelon Sugar, and Phil Lesh’s Searching For The Sound: My Life with the Grateful Dead around that time.

The song slipped out somewhere between dreaming about post-apocalyptic communes, a tie-dyed 60s California, and trying to imagine what all those long drives through rural Sweden in -20C would be like (turned out to be mainly snow). The song title is an incredibly niche Star Wars reference and a nod to Bolinas, California, the city that inspired In Watermelon Sugar.

It’s the only song on album two I play bass on, which left plenty of space for Emma to go wild on some amazing fuzz pedal steel. I’ve never heard anything like it, and it immediately perfectly captured the doomed spaceship vibe. Special mention to Rowan for powering through the non-stop accordion drone.

(PS. have you ever noticed the fuzz pedal steel on Sandy Denny’s It’ll Take a Long Time? It’s crazy! There needs to be more fuzzy steel in the world)

Lately we’ve been in the basement of The Holloway in Norwich, rehearsing ahead of our big April tour - dates/tickets (check out some snaps of us hard at work below)
